Dive Sites in the North

House Reef (5 – 18m)

Perfect dive for novice to advanced divers as a nice introductory dive or alternatively a good way to refresh after a period of not diving. The reef begins at 5 m and drops down to 18 m at high tide. Fan coral, soft coral and mushroom leather coral. We are lucky enough to see octopus, squid, the many varieties of lionfish, moray and snake eels, bat fish, sting rays, large groupers, ramora and the occasional nudibranch for the keener eye!

Shenzi (18 – 25m)

Spectacular dive site for the more advanced diver. Top of the reef is located at around 11 metres and then drops down to 25m at high tide. Beautiful coral formations, chance to see a wide variety of different scorpion fish, stone fish, nudibranchs and the more rare leaf fish as well as octopus, eels, rays and copious shoals of beautiful reef fish. A must see dive site!!

Mbwangawa (10 - 20 m)

A reef perfect for a first time diver giving them the possibility to explore a beautiful reef as well as the more experienced diver as a second dive after Shenzi. It is situated close to Nungwi’s lighthouse. Sports amazing sheet coral as well as soft coral. Great location to see green turtles, moray and snake eels, blue spotted sting rays, bat fish, Moorish idols and a wide variety of angelfish and butterfly fish.

Hunga Reef (12 - 18 m)

Hunga is suitable for novice and experienced divers alike. A tide specific dive site which begins at 12 m and goes down to 18 m. It comprises four large pieces of coral (soft coral and fan coral) which are located quite close to each other. The variety of fish found here is similar to Shenzie i.e. scorpion fish, stone fish, eels and rays as well as crocodile fish, unicorn fish and surgeon fish and if you are lucky you may even see a large school of barracuda passing by!

Kichafi (8 - 16 m)

Due to the fact that this reef starts at 8 m it is perfect for beginners but also has a lot of offer the more experienced diver. It comprises large sheet coral formations as well as staghorn coral and soft coral. Green turtles have been sighted here as well as the occasional reef shark, moray eels, snapper, rays and plenty of shrimp varieties and nudibranchs for those interested in the small stuff!!

Tumbatu (5 – 18m)

Tumbatu is a beautiful wall dive which starts at 5 metres and goes down to 18m. It is a lovely dive site for beginners and seasoned divers. For people who love wall dives it is a must as it offers a great array of different coral formations as well as a variety of vibrantly coloured reef fish from angel fish, butterfly fish, moorish idols to rays and eels, scorpion fish and stone fish and also the chance to spot a green turtle or two!

Mnemba

Big Wall (16 - 30 m)

This dive site is situated on Mnemba's east side. It is an exciting dive for the more experienced diver and is only an option with very calm waters and the correct tide. It is a vertical coral wall with coral overhangs which drops down immediately to 30 m. It is possible to sight large rays, tuna, reef sharks, eagle rays and depending on the season whale sharks as well as a variety of beautiful reef fish.

Kichwani (3 - 30 m)

Beautiful reef suitable for all types of diver. Leafy soft coral and spectacular fan coral. Possible to spot a school of dolphins passing by on the dive if you are exceptionally fortunate! Nice shallow drop-off, suitable for novice and experienced divers. You often find yourself completely surrounded by various schools of fish on this dive, so much so that divers often find they don’t know which ones to look at! These include oriental sweetlips, snapper, bat fish, wrasse surgeon fish and many more.

Coral Garden (5 – 18 m)

This dive site is located west of the Mnemba Atoll. The reef begins at 5 m making it perfect for discovery dives and then gently slopes down to 18 m offering plenty of diversity for more experienced divers. It boasts a wide variety of coral formations, green and hawksbill turtles, moray and snake eels, large shoals of amazingly coloured reef fish, baraccudas and if you are lucky there is also a resident black tip reef shark which on occasion makes an appearance!

Watabomi (12 - 22 m)

Gorgeous reef suitable for everyone from novice to more experienced divers as the reef begins shallow and slopes down to 22 m. A wide variety of coral can be found at this dive site to include soft, brain and fan coral. Similar to Coral Garden this dive site gives divers the unique experience of swimming through large shoals of beautiful tropical reef fish including surgeon fish, tiny blennies, wrasse, bat fish and also the chance to spot tiny ribbon eels and turtles!
